Our day first started with learning how to use the Barcelona Metro which got most exciting but that story is for another time:) We had to learn the blue line and the green line and everything in between before we could get anywhere! It truly was a most interesting experience!! With knowledge in hand however we eventurally met up with our guide who would escort us through Park Güell…Nicole.
(Taken in front of San Jose de la Montaña before entering the park)
Nicole quickly got us up to speed telling us about the history of the partnership between Eusebius Güell and Gaudi to plan and develop a new community outside the city. The park was to be built for the wealthy to build their villas beside and among an amazing garden, sculpture, mosaics and viaducts all designed by Gaudi.
Unfortunately the community never materialized past just one fabulous villa, yet the school they built is still in use, and the park and lands were all eventually donated to the city of Barcelona. It is now one of the most popular and visited attractions in the world!! The vision of Güell and Gaudi and the mosaic masterpieces have become a treasure of the city for families to enjoy and tourists to explore!!
